Handewitt is a municipality in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is located near the Danish border, approximately 10 kilometers north of Flensburg. The weather in Handewitt is temperate, with mild winters and warm summers. The municipality has a rich history, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the Stone Age. In the Middle Ages, Handewitt was part of the Duchy of Schleswig and was later incorporated into the Kingdom of Denmark. In 1864, Handewitt became part of Prussia and, in 1949, part of the Federal Republic of Germany.
