Gusinoye Ozero, also known as Gusinoe Ozero, is a town in Buryatiya, Russia, located on the eastern shore of Lake Gusinoye at an elevation of 551 meters (1,808 ft) above sea level. The town has a population of 24,544 (2010 census) and is the administrative center of Selenginsky District. The climate is sharply continental with long, cold winters and short, warm summers. The average temperature in January is -24 °C (-11 °F), while the average temperature in July is +18 °C (64 °F). The town was founded in 1741 as a Cossack settlement and was granted town status in 1939. It is home to the Gusinoozyorskiy Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in Russia.
