Gurnee is a village in Lake County, Illinois, United States. It is located 35 miles (56 km) north of Chicago, at the intersection of Interstate 94 and Grand Avenue. The village has a population of 30,710 (2010 census). Gurnee was founded in 1835 by Gurdon Saltonstall Hubbard, a prominent Chicago businessman. The village was named after Hubbard's hometown of Gurnee, New York. Gurnee is home to Six Flags Great America, one of the largest amusement parks in the United States. The village also has a number of other attractions, including the Gurnee Mills shopping mall, the Great Wolf Lodge water park, and the Naval Station Great Lakes. Gurnee has a humid continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in July is 75 °F (24 °C), and the average temperature in January is 22 °F (-6 °C).
