It is located on the North Shore of Long Island, approximately 19 miles (31 km) east of Manhattan. The village has a population of 6,700 (2010 census) and is known for its upscale shopping and dining options. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The village was founded in 1929 by William H. Reynolds, a real estate developer.
