The town has a humid continental climate, with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Grabill was founded in 1836 by John Grabill, a Mennonite farmer from Ohio. The town was originally known as Grabill's Station, and was a stop on the Underground Railroad. Grabill is home to a number of historic buildings, including the Grabill Mennonite Church, which was built in 1855. The town also has a strong heritage of music and the arts, and is home to the Grabill Music Hall and the Grabill Historical Society.
