The town is situated at the intersection of Interstate 75 and State Road 84, approximately 20 miles (32 km) east of Naples and 20 miles (32 km) west of Fort Myers. Golden Gate has a population of approximately 23,000 people and is known for its diverse community and its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. The town has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Golden Gate was originally established in the early 1900s as a farming community. In the 1950s, the town began to experience rapid growth as a result of the construction of Interstate 75.
