Glen Allen is a suburban community located in Henrico County, Virginia, USA, just north of Richmond. The area has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Glen Allen's history dates back to the 17th century, when it was part of the Powhatan Confederacy. In the 18th century, the area was settled by European colonists and became known as "Giles's Ordinary," after a local tavern owner. The community was renamed "Glen Allen" in the 19th century, and it has since grown into a thriving suburb of Richmond.
