Gautier, Mississippi, is located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, approximately 20 miles west of Biloxi. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Gautier was originally known as Got'e, a Choctaw word meaning "gathering place." The city was founded in 1887 and incorporated in 1965. Gautier is home to a diverse population with a rich heritage that includes Native American, French, and African American influences.
