Gastouni, a town in the Peloponnese region of Greece, is situated in the Ilia prefecture, 22 kilometers from Pyrgos. The town experiences a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Gastouni's history dates back to ancient times, and it was once known as Pylos, a major port city during the Mycenaean period. In the 13th century, the Franks built a castle in the town, which was later captured by the Ottomans in the 15th century. The town was liberated from Ottoman rule in 1821 during the Greek War of Independence. Gastouni is home to several historical sites, including the Frankish castle, the Byzantine church of Agios Nikolaos, and the Ottoman mosque of Ibrahim Pasha.
