Gaffney is a city in Cherokee County, South Carolina, United States. It is located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 55 miles (89 km) southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina. The city has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Gaffney was founded in 1806 and named after Andrew Gaffney, a local planter. The city is home to Limestone College, a private liberal arts college founded in 1845.
