Fumone is a picturesque hilltop town in the Lazio region of central Italy, approximately 60 kilometers southeast of Rome. Its medieval architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, and stunning views of the surrounding countryside make it a popular tourist destination. The town enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild winters. Fumone has a rich history dating back to the 11th century when it was a fortified outpost for the counts of Tusculum. It later came under the control of the powerful Colonna family, who built the imposing Castello di Fumone, which dominates the town's skyline. Fumone is also known for its association with Pope Celestine V, who was imprisoned in the castle after his abdication in 1294.
