The town has a population of 1,373 people and a total area of 2.1 square miles. The climate in Fruitland is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The town was founded in 1887 by a group of farmers who were looking for a place to grow fruit trees. The town was named after the abundance of fruit trees in the area. Fruitland is home to a number of historic sites, including the Fruitland Baptist Church, which was built in 1892, and the Fruitland School, which was built in 1912. The town also has a number of parks and recreational areas, including the Fruitland Park and the Fruitland Community Center.
