Freedom, Pennsylvania, is a small borough located in Beaver County, approximately 20 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The town has a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Freedom was founded in 1833 by John A. Wood and was originally known as Woodville. The name was changed to Freedom in 1851 to commemorate the abolition of slavery in Pennsylvania. The town's heritage is rooted in the iron industry, and it was once home to several iron foundries and rolling mills.
