Fredonia, New York, is a village located in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. It is situated in the southwestern part of the county, approximately 45 miles southwest of Buffalo. The village has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Fredonia was founded in 1801 by a group of settlers from Massachusetts. The village was named after Fredonia, the Greek goddess of liberty. Fredonia is home to the State University of New York at Fredonia, a public liberal arts college. The village also has a rich history and heritage, including a number of historic buildings and sites.
