It is situated in the eastern part of the state, approximately 30 miles northeast of Columbus. The village has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Fredericktown was founded in 1816 by Frederick Mechling and was originally known as Mechling's Mills. The village played a role in the Underground Railroad during the American Civil War and is home to several historic buildings, including the Fredericktown Presbyterian Church and the Fredericktown Town Hall.
