Fort Scott is a city in Bourbon County, Kansas, United States. It is located at the confluence of the Marmaton and Little Osage rivers, approximately 95 miles (153 km) south of Kansas City. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. Fort Scott was founded in 1842 as a military outpost to protect settlers from Native American attacks. The city played an important role in the American Civil War as a Union stronghold. Today, Fort Scott is a thriving community with a rich history and heritage.
