Fort Salonga is a small unincorporated community in the town of Huntington in Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is located on the North Shore of Long Island, approximately 35 miles (56 km) east of New York City. The climate is humid continental, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The area was first settled by Europeans in the 17th century, and Fort Salonga was built in 1758 during the French and Indian War. The fort was named after Colonel Richard Saltonstall, who commanded the 1st Connecticut Regiment during the war. Today, Fort Salonga is a popular tourist destination, with a museum, a park, and a beach.
