Fort Lupton is a city in Weld County, Colorado, United States. It is located at the confluence of the South Platte River and the St. Vrain River, approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) northeast of Denver. The city has a humid continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Fort Lupton was founded in 1835 as a fur trading post and later became a military fort. It is named after Lieutenant Colonel William Lupton, who was killed in the Battle of the Little Bighorn. The city's history and heritage are closely tied to its role as a transportation hub and its agricultural industry.
