Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, is a United States Army post located in the south-central part of the state, approximately 120 miles southeast of St. Louis. The post encompasses over 63,000 acres and is home to the U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and the U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear School. The post's climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Fort Leonard Wood was established in 1940 as a training camp for infantry troops during World War II. After the war, the post became a permanent installation and has since been used for a variety of training purposes.
