Fort Bragg is a coastal town in Mendocino County, California, United States. It is located on the Pacific Ocean, approximately 140 miles (230 km) north of San Francisco and 240 miles (390 km) south of Eureka. The town has a population of about 7,000 people. The climate is mild, with average temperatures ranging from 45 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit (7 to 18 degrees Celsius). Fort Bragg was founded in 1857 as a military outpost during the American Civil War. The town was named after Confederate General Braxton Bragg. Fort Bragg is home to a number of historic buildings, including the Fort Bragg Headlands Lighthouse, which was built in 1897. The town is also home to a number of art galleries and museums, including the Mendocino Art Center and the Noyo Center for the Arts.
