The town has a humid subtropical climate, with warm, humid summers and mild, wet winters. Ferney-Voltaire has a rich history, having been founded in the 13th century and later becoming a refuge for philosophers and writers during the Enlightenment, most notably Voltaire, who lived there from 1758 until his death in 1778.
