Etowah is a town in McMinn County, Tennessee, United States, with a population of 3,498. It is located in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Chattanooga. The town is situated in a valley surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Etowah was founded in 1820 and was originally known as "The Forks of the Tellico". The town was renamed in 1836 after the Etowah River, which flows through the area. Etowah has a rich history and heritage, with many historical sites and landmarks. The town is home to the Etowah Indian Mounds, which are a National Historic Landmark.
