Englewood was originally settled by the Dutch in the 17th century and was known as "New Barbadoes" until 1899. The city has a rich history and heritage, with many historic buildings and landmarks, including the John Heard House, which was built in 1760 and is one of the oldest surviving houses in Bergen County.
