Emiliano Zapata, Hidalgo, Mexico, is a municipality located in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. It is situated at an elevation of 2,530 meters (8,300 feet) above sea level, with a latitude of 19.6666700 and a longitude of -98.5333300. The municipality has a population of 31,456 (2020) and an area of 207.5 square kilometers (80.1 square miles). The municipality is named after Emiliano Zapata, a Mexican revolutionary who fought in the Mexican Revolution. The municipality is located in the central part of the state of Hidalgo, in the Mezquital Valley. The municipality is bordered by the municipalities of Tlahuelilpan, Tetepango, Tlaxcoapan, Atotonilco de Tula, Atitalaquia, and Tula de Allende. The municipality is home to the Emiliano Zapata National Park, which is a popular tourist destination. The municipality has a subtropical highland climate, with an average temperature of 16.5 °C (61.7 °F) and an average annual precipitation of 650 millimeters (26 inches). The municipality is home to a number of historical sites, including the Church of San Miguel Arcángel, which was built in the 16th century. The municipality is also home to a number of indigenous communities, including the Otomí and Nahuatl peoples.
