Elmer, New Jersey, is a small town located in Salem County, in the southern part of the state. The town is situated at the crossroads of County Routes 540 and 553, and is approximately 10 miles from the Delaware River. The climate in Elmer is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The town was founded in 1738 by a group of German immigrants, and was originally known as "Nieder Elmer." The town's name was changed to "Elmer" in 1844. Elmer has a rich history and heritage, and is home to several historic sites, including the Elmer Methodist Church, which was built in 1850, and the Elmer Grange Hall, which was built in 1894.
