It is located at 32°41′53″N 95°53′07″W, in the eastern part of the county, about 10 miles (16 km) east of Canton and 20 miles (32 km) west of Tyler. The town was founded in 1873 by the Texas and Pacific Railway, and was named after the nearby Edgewood plantation. The town's economy is primarily based on agriculture, with major crops including cotton, corn, and soybeans.
