Ecorse, Michigan is a city located in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. It is situated on the Detroit River, south of Detroit. The city has a humid continental climate, with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Ecorse was founded in 1892 as a shipbuilding center. It was home to the Great Lakes Engineering Works, which built many of the ships that sailed the Great Lakes. The city's heritage is closely tied to the shipbuilding industry, and it is still home to a number of shipyards.
