Eaton Rapids is a city in Eaton County, Michigan, United States, with a population of 5,243 as of the 2020 census. It is located in the south-central part of the Lower Peninsula, approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of Lansing. The city is situated on the Grand River and is home to a number of parks and recreation areas. The weather in Eaton Rapids is typical of the Midwest, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The city was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York. It was originally known as Grand River Rapids, but the name was later changed to Eaton Rapids in honor of John Eaton, the first governor of Michigan. The city has a rich history and heritage, and is home to a number of historical landmarks, including the Eaton Rapids Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
