East Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The CDP is located just north of Tampa Bay, and it is part of the Tampa Bay metropolitan area. The climate in East Lake is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The average temperature in July is 82°F (28°C), and the average temperature in January is 52°F (11°C). East Lake was originally part of the land grant to Col. William Bird in 1843. The area was first settled by farmers and fishermen, and it remained a rural community until the early 20th century. In the 1920s, East Lake began to develop as a resort town, and it became a popular destination for tourists from the northern United States. The town continued to grow after World War II, and it is now a thriving community with a population of over 30,000 people.
