Dragash, also known as Dagash, is a town and municipality located in the southeast of Kosovo, near the border with North Macedonia. The municipality has a population of around 34,000 people and covers an area of 435 square kilometers. The town of Dragash is situated at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level and has a moderate continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. The municipality is known for its beautiful natural scenery, including the Sharr Mountains, which are popular for hiking and skiing. The history of Dragash dates back to the 14th century, when it was part of the Serbian Empire. The town was later conquered by the Ottoman Empire and remained under Ottoman rule for several centuries. After the Balkan Wars, Dragash became part of the Kingdom of Serbia. During World War II, the town was occupied by German forces. After the war, Dragash became part of the Socialist Republic of Serbia within Yugoslavia. In 1999, Dragash was part of the Kosovo War and was occupied by Serbian forces. After the war, Dragash became part of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). In 2008, Kosovo declared independence from Serbia, and Dragash became part of the Republic of Kosovo.
