Destrehan, Louisiana, is a town located on the west bank of the Mississippi River, approximately 20 miles west of New Orleans. The town has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Destrehan was founded in 1731 by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, the governor of French Louisiana. The town is named after Jean-Baptiste Destrehan, a French-Canadian merchant who settled in the area in the early 18th century. Destrehan has a rich history and heritage, with many historic buildings and sites, including the Destrehan Plantation, which is one of the oldest surviving plantations in Louisiana.
