Dargeçit is a town and district of Mardin Province in southeastern Turkey, located at 37°32′43″N 41°43′10″E. The town has a population of 14,468 (2021) and is situated on the banks of the Tigris River. The weather in Dargeçit is hot and dry in the summer, with average temperatures reaching 35°C (95°F), and cold and wet in the winter, with average temperatures dropping to 5°C (41°F). Dargeçit has a long history, dating back to the Assyrian period. It was later part of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires. The town is home to a number of historical sites, including the Great Mosque, which was built in the 12th century.
