The town is situated at the crossroads of the N2 and N3 highways, and is a major transportation hub for the region. The town has a hot and dry climate, with average temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C. Dara has a rich history, dating back to the 15th century, when it was a major trading center for the trans-Saharan slave trade. The town is also home to a number of historical sites, including the Great Mosque of Dara, which was built in the 16th century.
