Crystal City, Texas, United States, is a city located in Zavala County, in the southwestern part of the state. It is situated at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and State Highway 16, approximately 110 miles (177 km) southwest of San Antonio. The city has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Crystal City was founded in 1907 by the Crystal City Company, a subsidiary of the Crystal City and Uvalde Irrigation Company. The company was formed to develop the area for agriculture, and the city was named after the crystal-clear waters of the Nueces River, which flows through the area. The city's heritage is rooted in its agricultural past, and it is still a major center for agriculture in the region.
