Créteil was first mentioned in 637 as "Cristolium" and became a royal residence in the 14th century. The town developed rapidly in the 20th century, becoming a major industrial and commercial center. Today, Créteil is home to a diverse population and is known for its modern architecture, including the famous Créteil Soleil shopping center.
