Cortland, New York, is a city in central New York State, located at the intersection of Interstates 81 and 90. The city has a humid continental climate, with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. Cortland was founded in 1791 by Revolutionary War veteran John Cortland and was originally known as the Town of Homer. In 1864, the town was renamed Cortland in honor of its founder and incorporated as a city in 1900. Cortland is home to SUNY Cortland, a public university with over 10,000 students. The city is also known for its maple syrup production and is home to the Cortland County Maple Festival, held annually in April.
