Copperas Cove is a city in Coryell and Bell counties in central Texas, United States. It is located 70 miles north of Austin and 60 miles south of Waco. The city has a population of 32,381 as of the 2020 census. Copperas Cove was founded in 1858 by a group of settlers from Tennessee. The city was named after the nearby Copperas Cove Creek, which was named for the copperas (iron sulfate) found in its waters.
