Concepción Las Minas has a rich history and heritage, dating back to the pre-Columbian era when it was inhabited by the Maya civilization. The municipality was founded in 1576 by Spanish conquistadors and was originally known as San Miguel de la Concepción. In 1871, the municipality was renamed Concepción Las Minas, after the nearby silver mines.
