Colonia, New Jersey is a small town located in Middlesex County, just south of the Raritan River and about 20 miles southwest of New York City. The town has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Colonia was founded in 1683 by Dutch settlers and was originally known as Raritan Landing. The town's name was changed to Colonia in 1899. Colonia has a rich history and heritage, and is home to several historic sites, including the Old Dutch Parsonage, the John Basilone Memorial, and the Colonia Firehouse Museum.
