Civitaquana, Abruzzo, Italy

Civitaquana, also known as Civitaquana, is a comune and town in the province of Pescara, in the Abruzzo region of central Italy. It is located at an altitude of 365 meters (1,198 feet) above sea level, on the slopes of the Gran Sasso d'Italia mountain range. The town has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Civitaquana has a long and rich history, dating back to the Roman era. The town was founded by the Romans in the 1st century BC, and was known as Aquae Cutiliae. The town was destroyed by the Goths in the 5th century AD, but was rebuilt by the Lombards in the 6th century AD. The town was later ruled by the Normans, the Hohenstaufens, and the Aragonese. In the 16th century, Civitaquana became part of the Kingdom of Naples, and remained part of the kingdom until the Italian unification in 1861.
