Chittenango is a village located in the town of Sullivan, Madison County, New York, United States. It is situated at an elevation of 420 feet (128 m) above sea level and has a population of 4,999 as of the 2020 census. The village is located in the central part of the state, about 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Syracuse. The climate is humid continental, with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. The village was founded in 1794 by John Chittenden and was originally known as Chittenden's Mills. The village was renamed Chittenango in 1813. The village is home to the Chittenango Falls State Park, which is a popular tourist destination.
