It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area and has a population of 1,849 as of the 2020 census. The borough was founded in 1892 and named after Cheswick Farm, which was owned by George Westinghouse. The climate in Cheswick is humid continental, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The borough has a rich history and heritage, including being the site of the first commercial radio broadcast in the United States in 1920.
