Cheektowaga is a town located in Erie County, New York, United States. The town is bordered by the cities of Buffalo and Lackawanna to the west, the town of Lancaster to the east, and the towns of Amherst and Clarence to the north. Cheektowaga has a population of 88,226 as of the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1839 and is named after the Seneca Indian word "Cheektowaga," which means "place of the crabapple tree." The town is home to a number of historical sites, including the Cheektowaga Historical Museum and the George Urban House. Cheektowaga is also home to a number of parks and recreational facilities, including the Cheektowaga Town Park and the Cheektowaga Aquatic Center.
