Charlestown, Rhode Island, is a small town located in the southwestern part of the state, on the shore of Ninigret Pond. It has a humid subtropical climate with warm, humid summers and cool, wet winters. The town was founded in 1738 and was originally known as Westerly. It was renamed Charlestown in 1789 in honor of King Charles II of England. The town has a rich history and heritage, with many historic buildings and sites.
