Çerkeş, also known as Mecidiye, is a town and district of Çankırı Province in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey, located at the coordinates 40.8116400 latitude and 32.8935800 longitude. It has a temperate climate with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. The town has a rich history dating back to ancient times, with evidence of settlements from the Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods. Çerkeş is also home to a significant Circassian population, who settled in the area after being displaced from their homeland in the Caucasus in the 19th century.
