Căşeiu is a commune in Cluj County, Romania, located in the northwest of the country, in the Someș Plateau. The commune is composed of five villages: Căşeiu, Căşeiu Mic, Căşeiu-Vale, Coplean and Deleni. The weather in Căşeiu is temperate continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in January is -2.5 °C (27.5 °F), while the average temperature in July is 21.5 °C (70.7 °F). The commune has a rich history, dating back to the 13th century. The first written mention of Căşeiu is in a document from 1291. The commune was part of the Kingdom of Hungary until 1526, when it became part of the Principality of Transylvania. In 1699, Căşeiu became part of the Habsburg Empire. The commune was part of Romania from 1918 to 1940, when it was ceded to Hungary. Căşeiu was returned to Romania in 1945.
