Carmel Hamlet is a small village in the town of Carmel, Putnam County, New York, United States. It is located at the intersection of Routes 301 and 52, about 50 miles (80 km) north of New York City. The climate is humid continental, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The area was first settled by the Dutch in the 17th century, and later by the British. The town of Carmel was formed in 1795, and Carmel Hamlet was incorporated as a village in 1871. The village is home to several historic buildings, including the Old Town Hall (1837), the Methodist Church (1845), and the Presbyterian Church (1852).
