Canning, also known as Canning Town or Port Canning, is a town in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, India, located on the bank of the Muriganga River. It experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. Historically, Canning was a significant port during the British colonial era and served as a gateway to the Sunderbans. It is home to several historical sites, including the Canning Fort, built in the 19th century, and the Canning Lighthouse, which still guides ships passing through the Muriganga River.
