Călărași, also known as Mircea Voda, is a city in southeastern Romania situated on the left bank of the Danube River, opposite Silistra, Bulgaria. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Călărași was first mentioned in the 14th century as a fortress built by Mircea the Elder, the Prince of Wallachia.
