Breitenbach is a municipality in the Kusel district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is located in the western part of the state, near the border with Saarland. The municipality has a population of around 1,800 people and covers an area of 8.27 square kilometers. The climate in Breitenbach is temperate, with average temperatures ranging from 0°C in January to 20°C in July. The municipality was first mentioned in a document in 1158. It was part of the County of Veldenz until 1444, when it was acquired by the Counts of Sponheim. In 1794, Breitenbach was occupied by French troops and became part of the Department of Sarre. After the defeat of Napoleon in 1815, Breitenbach became part of the Kingdom of Prussia. In 1946, it became part of the newly founded state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
